Cold wave grips Nagaland

DIMAPUR, Dec 23 - A cold wave has gripped Nagaland with the mercury nearing freezing point in the State capital Kohima and some other hill stations of the State.

Extreme cold weather conditions prevailed in most parts of the State where the mercury dropped near freezing point even as cases of stroke were reported in several parts. In Dimapur, the mercury dropped to 11�C, Mokokchung recorded 9�C, Mon district 7�C and Phek 6�C on Monday night.

According to Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) weather station report, Kohima recorded 6 �C between 6 pm to 6 am on Monday. It said the maximum temperature during the past few days recorded between 19�C and 13�C during the day but from 6 pm to 6 am, the temperature dropped to 10�C, 7�C and 6�C. The report also said there is likelihood that the mercury may drop further by and after Christmas.
