CMs remark on links with Cong misleading: AGP

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Dec 2 - The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) yesterday termed as unfortunate and misleading a statement made by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal castigating the regional party for maintaining truck with the Congress.

In a statement here, AGP spokesman Manoj Saikia said that contrary to the assertion of the Chief Minister, it has now been observed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is now functioning in the style of the Congress.

The BJP is now crowded with Congress deserters and the party has embraced politics of suppression, allurement and blackmailing in line with the Congress, the AGP spokesman said.

He also alleged that the BJP and the Congress have been maintaining a similar stand on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

The AGP spokesman said the Congress was holding power in Patacharkuchi Nagar Samiti and Mangaldai municipality with the support of BJP councillors. While the BJP is politicking in the name of Hindus, the Congress is politicking in the name of Muslims, and thus both the parties are harming unity of the people of the State, he added.
