CM unvails U-17 WC winner�s trophy

GUWAHATI, Aug 26 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in a brief function at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, Sarusajai here today unveiled the FIFA U-17 World Cup Winner�s Trophy.

He also launched the host city logo of Guwahati for the upcoming FIFA U-17 World Cup.

Guwahati will host Group E along with three other matches, including a semifinal of the championship which will be held in six cities from October 6 to 28.

The host city logo blends the components and sentiments relevant to the people of Guwahati.

The glittering Trophy will be kept at the Judges Field for a Mission XI Million festival tomorrow morning, and for public viewing from 11 am onwards.

Speaking on the occasion Chief Minister Sonowal said, �Hosting the FIFA U-17 World Cup is a big occasion for the entire North-eastern region, especially for the youngsters who can witness world class footballers live�.

�I am extreamly happy to unveil the Winner�s Trophy because this FIFA championship will inspire the young guns of this region to play football at a higher level.�

Interecting with the media about the Guwahati Host City Logo, tournament director of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of this championship, Javier Ceppi said, �We�re very happy to launch the Guwahati Host City Logo. The State Government has been very supportive for hosting the World Cup. The Chief Minister in particular extended his full support in all aspects which helped the LOC in going ahead.�

The Trophy Experience began last week when the silverware awarded to the former winners was brought to New Delhi. An estimated 2.5 lakh people witnessed it last weekend at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium and India Gate. Guwahati is the second host city to welcome the Winner�s Trophy.

Ceppi further revealed that the tickets of the semifinal match scheduled to be held here are almost sold out.

Sports Minister Naba Kumar Doley, member secretary of the SLAC Lakhya Konwar, Sports Commissioner Ashotosh Agnihorti were also present on the occasion.
