CM to open Nalbari Raas festival today

NALBARI, Nov 22 - The famous 13-day Raas festival of Nalbari Harimandir will be begin from tomorrow. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will inaugurate the festival.

In the inaugural meeting to be presided over by Ashok Sarma, president of the Raas Celebration Committee, Bhrigugiri Maharaj, Kanyasram of Basistha, Bhabendra Nath Deka, Padadhikar of Srimanta Sankardev Sangha, Chandra Mohan Patowary, State Minister of Industries and Commerce and Sanjib Kumar Das, Deputy Commissioner of Nalbari, will attend as invited guests. A cultural procession will be taken out through the main thoroughfares of the Nalbari town. The procession will be flagged off by Shiladitya Chetiya.

A festive mood has already gripped the town in particular and the entire district in general to celebrate the Raas festival. The celebration committee has completed all kinds of preparations to make the 85th Raas festival more attractive.

Raas Celebration Committee general secretary Nagen Deka at a press conference held on the Harimandir premises on Wednesday evening said that the celebration committee has taken some special measures to draw the attention of visitors.

Deka further said about ten idol makers have completed the making of life-size idols depicting the eventful life of Lord Krishna to be displayed during the Raas. The celebration committee has erected several illuminated gates with sophisticated electric devices to welcome the visitors. The festival will come to an end on December 5.
