GUWAHATI, Dec 7 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday reviewed preparations for setting up of Swahid Smarak Kshetra and Swahid Udyan, foundation stone for which will be laid at Paschim Boragaon in the city on December 10.
The Chief Minister reviewed the preparations in a meeting held at the conference room of his office at the Legislative Assembly today.
Sonowal, while highlighting the importance of the proposed Swahid Smarak and Udyan, asked the departments concerned to take all necessary measures to reflect the valour and sacrifice of the martyrs who laid down their lives in the Assam Movement prominently at the site.
He directed the departments to develop the site in a way that would help visitors know in detail about the martyrs and their contribution to the cause of Assamese identity.
The Chief Minister also stressed the need to develop the site in an eco-friendly manner. He further directed the departments to take steps for planning and drafting the DPR for construction of an approach road connecting the memorial site directly with the National Highway.
