CM reviews Goalpara flood situation

GOALPARA, July 22 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal visited relief camps set up at Goalpara High Madrassa, Joytun Nessa ME School and New Goalpara High in Goalpara district and took stock of condition of the inmates on Tuesday.

Sonowal also reviewed the flood situation in Goalpara district and the steps taken by the district administration in a meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner�s conference hall. The MLAs attending the meeting expressed satisfaction on government relief operations and raised a few other issues. The Chief Minister also asked the DC to take urgent measures to address the issues highlighted by the MLAs.

Further the Chief Minister took stock of COVID-19 situation in the district and Health Department�s initiatives. The Joint Director of Health Services apprised the Chief Minister about the latest scenario on COVID-19 in the district. Sonowal during the meeting also directed the District Agriculture officer to take steps for generating awareness on PM Fasal Bima Yojana so that more and more farmers come forward to take benefit of the scheme.

The Chief Minister also distributed ex-gratia cheque of Rs 4 lakh to the next of kin of flood victims of the district in the meeting. Later, he visited the washed away portion of the PWD road at Haboraghat, Kharija Manikpur by Krishnai river in Goalpara district and took stock of the damages.

Water Resources Minister Keshab Mahanta and Tourism Minister Chandan Brahma accompanied the Chief Minister during his visit along with Food & Civil Supplies Minister Phani Bhushan Choudhury.
