CM promises Rs 500-cr package to BTC

By Correspondent

BONGAIGAON, April 3 The ruling Congress government of the State would gift the people living in BTC if they vote the party to power in the Council, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi announced today.

Addressing an election rally at Bijni in Chirang district today, the Chief Minister promised to offer a special economic package worth Rs 500 crore if the electorates bring the Congress party to power in BTC.

The Congress government, in its two terms, had helped the Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF) for the interest of Councils development, but instead of common people only a few individuals got benefited under the rule of BPF in the territory, Gogoi said.

Gogoi, who criticised the BJP for its failure to act on black money, land law reforms and other commitments, said militant activity in the BTAD area has been reduced and the governments action against the militants would remain tough in future too. The Congress, which seems not so strong in most of the seats in BTC, would contest all of the seven seats in Chirang district alone.

Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Anjan Dutta, who accompanied Gogoi, in his address said the BJP is not doing any work as per its manifesto released before the last Lok Sabha poll.

Todays rally at Bijni was mainly for the contesting candidates of the party in the four constituencies under Bijni Sub-division in Chirang.
