GUWAHATI, April 16 - Paying rich tributes to Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar on his 126th birth anniversary at a function held at the Janata Bhawan in Dispur on Friday, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that developing all sections of society by cutting across all divisions is the prime objective of the Government, and all efforts have been undertaken to achieve the same.

The Chief Minister announced that a memorial lecture would be held every year in the State by the Government in memory of Dr BR Ambedkar, which would be highlighted at the national level.

Stating that Dr Ambedkar has made tremendous contribution to the success of Indian democracy by drafting the Constitution of the country, Sonowal remarked that India was a shining example of unity in diversity and was thriving because of its Constitution, which protects the aspirations and rights of all Indian citizens.

Referring to Dr Ambedkars immense contributions towards the uplift of the underprivileged and backward sections of society, Sonowal said that the Government is committed to equal development of all sections of the society and until the fruits of progress reach the poorest of the poor, the Government cannot be termed as successful.

Saying that there are small ethnic groups in the State with very little population, however, they would be equally developed along with other groups, Sonowal said. He urged the people to keep a close watch over the activities of the Government so that efficient governance can be delivered at all levels.

Media Adviser to the Chief Minister Hrishikesh Goswami, Chief Secretary VK Pipersenia, Additional Chief Secretary WPT & BC, Rajiv Bora among others, were present on the occasion.
