GUWAHATI, Aug 3 � Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today inaugurated a home in the Sundarpur area on the RG Baruah Road of the city for the shelter of those children who are orphaned by HIV/AIDS.
Inaugurating the home named Kasturi Children�s Care Home at a function jointly organised by the Assam Network of Positive People and the Assam State AIDS Control Society, the Chief Minister underlined the need to provide shelter and education to each and every orphan child of the society. He praised the initiative of the Assam Network of Positive People to provide shelter to those children who have been rendered orphan by HIV/AIDS.
The Chief Minister expressed happiness over the present atmosphere in regards to the social attitude to the HIV/AIDs affected people. Earlier, people were victims of superstition in regard to HIV/AIDS. But today, superstition is no more. This has facilitated proper treatment of the HIV/AIDS- affected people. Earlier, they used to conceal their infection, he said.
He also praised the role played by Jahnabi Goswami for the benefit of the HIV/AIDS-affected people and described her as a torchbearer of the State�s drive against HIV/AIDS.
He assured all steps for providing food, shelter and education to the children orphaned by HIV/AIDS and for extension of the Kasturi Children�s Care Home. He also handed over cheques of Rs 1 lakh to several women who lost their husbands due to HIV/AIDS.
The function was also addressed by Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, said an official press release.
