CM opens centenary function of Jorhat Jail

JORHAT, Aug 10 � Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi inaugurated the centenary year celebration function of the Jorhat Central Jail here on Thursday. The programme started with the inauguration of the Pitambar Deva Goswami Memorial Cell inside the prison in which the Satradhikar was lodged for participating in the freedom struggle.

The inmates of the Jorhat Central Jail have offered Rs 25,400 from their daily wages to the Chief Minister�s Relief Fund. The inmates also handed over an embossed portrait of Tarun Gogoi to him. The Chief Minister too announced a fund of Rs 10 lakh for the development of the jail. He expressed his satisfaction to see the reformation activities in the jail.

At a function held in this connection at the Assam Agricultural University auditorium, the Chief Minister said that only peaceful talks and discussions can solve problems. Violence is not the proper means to attain solution to any problem. He insisted on following the path of non-violence shown by Mahatma Gandhi which has been adopted in several other countries in the world.

Government employees of Jorhat district and the Jorhat Municipal Board employees also resolved to offer their salaries of two days, amounting Rs 5 lakh, to the Chief Minister�s Relief Fund.
