CM opens 3 projects at Nasatra in Barpeta dist

BARPETA, Nov 3 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated three developmental projects at Nasatra in Barpeta district today. Accompanied by State Industry Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, Water Resource Minister Keshab Mahanta and Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Pijush Hazarika, Sonowal first inaugurated a building constructed under Assam Skill Development Mission titled, �Madhumangalam Bhawan�. This building is said to be the first of its kind in the State.

Sonowal also inaugurated the Nasatra Model Hospital and a scheme to protect Krishnaguru Sewasram and its adjoining areas from the erosion of Alpa canal. Addressing a mammoth gathering at Nasatra in Barpeta district here this afternoon, Sonowal gave a detailed account of the developmental and welfare schemes undertaken by his government during the last four-and-a-half years.

Later talking to mediapersons, Sonowal claimed that the developmental activities in the State during this four-and-a-half years have surpassed the volume of work done by Tarun Gogoi-led Congress government in 15 years. Sonowal acknowledged that erosion is a grave problem faced by the State. Besides landslide is one of the major challenges in north- eastern States. He claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has recognised the problem and has constituted a committee with five Chief Ministers of northeastern region to find ways and means for a permanent solution to these problems.

Sonowal also informed that work on more than 1000 concrete bridges is almost complete under Asom Mala Scheme. �Works which the Congress government could not do during 15 years have been done within the last four-and-a-half years,� the Chief Minister said.

Earlier, Sonowal arrived at Sarthebari and visited the bel metal cottage industry. He visited the head office of the Assam Bel Metal Utensil Co-operative Society and discussed about the problems and prospects of this industry.
