TEZPUR, July 7 Claiming present situation of the State quite peaceful in comparison to the other parts of the country, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today asserted that without peace, development cannot be achieved and in this regard, he said, security forces like army, ITBP, state police and other paramilitary forces play a vital role.

The Chief Minister, who was laying the foundation stone of the office and residential complex of sector headquarter of ITBP at Rangamati near here, further observed that there is a good coordination among the police and security forces, reflecting a peaceful situation in the region. Earlier, there was security threat to the outsiders, and the region was thought to insurgent hub, but now Assam is a peaceful zone, he said. It has been possible because of the positive role played by the government in cooperation with the security forces, he added.

Gogoi said employment to the land donor family members will be given top priority in the proposed ITBP project. Referring to the Uttarakhand tragedy, he also appreciated the role played by ITBP jawans during the crucial moments. He also stated that Rs 10 lakh each would be given to the ITBP jawan from Assam, who lost his life during the rescue operations in Uttarakhand, and the jawan from Udalguri, who was killed in a recent militant attack in Jammu & Kashmir.

Later replying to queries of mediapersons over the ongoing SEBA conflict, the Chief Minister said he himself was dissatisfied with the matter and would soon intervene in this regard, considering the future of the student community.
