CM lays foundation of stadium, swimming pool

NALBARI, April 3 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday laid the foundation stone of the North Kamrup Indoor stadium and the swimming pool near Gurdon HS School play ground. The indoor stadium and the swimming pool will be constructed at a cost of Rs 5.16 core provided by the State government.

Addressing a public meeting held on the occasion, Sonowal said that for an atmosphere of peace and normalcy to prevail, we must develop the sports facilities in the State. He added that his government has given more emphasis on the sports sector immediately after taking charge. �We are constructing 500 playgrounds in different rural areas with modern facilities so that the interested youth can exercise there and take up sports.� The Chief Minister further said that to scientifically develop a sports-friendly environment in the State, his Government has increased the fund allocation in this Budget. �The facilities of floodlights will be available in most of the play grounds of the State from this year,� the Chief Minister added. He also said that the Government has taken steps to provide facilities of training to sports-loving youths in their respective panchayats. Sonowal called upon the parents to motivate their children to take up sports-related activities so as to develop their careers as sportspersons. In the present time, taking up sports provides one an opportunity to make astronomical sums of money, in the right manner, he said. The Chief Minister also mentioned that his Government has decided to extend an amount of Rs one core and a job in administrative service to those who win a medal in the Olympic Games and Rs 50 lakh with a job at the Inspector level to those from the State who win a medal in the Asian Games.

The function was also attended by the Minister of industries and Commerce, Chandra Mohan Patowary, MLA of Nalbari LAC Ashok Sarma, MLA of Batadraba Angurlata Deka. Earlier, Sonowal offered purnahuti in the three Maha Vishnu yajnas at Barkhala, Kharjhara Ashram and Barnardi in the district.
