CM lays foundation of Chamata stadium

NALBARI, Aug 6 - With the flourishing of sports activities, the State government has decided to develop tourism and industrial sectors of the State. By projecting Guwahati as the sports capital of India, the government will try to increase tourists inflow and investors to the State, said Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday.

Addressing a meeting after laying the foundation stone of Rs 10-crore project of Chamata stadium, Sonowal further said that his government will organise sports events in 219 development blocks and 2202 gaon panchayats in the State from this year to find out the hidden talents of sports persons of rural areas. The government will provide necessary support to such talented sports persons.

The government�s effort during the last two years for a congenial atmosphere of sports activities has shown result through Hima Das, the Chief Minister added. Sonowal admitted that the interest of people of the state in sports is gradually increasing.

The foundation laying ceremony was attended, among others, by Chandra Mohan Patowary, Minister of Industries, Ashok Sarma and Narayan Deka, MLAs from Nalbari and Barkshetri LACs respectively.
