By Irfan Khondker

DHUBRI, June 11 - In a rare gesture, Coochbehar-based doctor Subhash Saha has come forward to extend medical treatment to the Satradhikar of Madhupur Satra, Lakhikanta Mahanta, who has been suffering from kidney ailment for the last two years. Appreciating his noble work, he (doctor) has been provided an amount of Rs 5.5 lakh under the Chief Ministers Relief Fund.

Saha in his private hospital has been treating the Satradhikar for his kidney ailment for the last two years. Not only that, the doctor is performing costly dialysis and other operations without taking a single penny from the Satradhikar.

As the Satradhikars financial health is not good, the doctor has to shoulder the responsibility to meet all the medical expenses.

We are very grateful to Saha for his humanitarian services. I have not been able to pay the medical bill owing to my poor financial health which is now around Rs 11 lakh, said the Satradhikar who has been playing a pivotal role in expanding Vaisnavite culture in the area.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner of Dhubri Dhiraj Chaudhary along with the ADC Pallav Mazumder handed over a cheque of Rs 5.5 lakh to the doctor on Saturday at the Satra premises.

While talking to the reporters, the DC said, A lot is to be done in the Madhupur Satra, to protect and promote the cultural heritage of our State. This is just a small beginning and we are planning in a bigger way to develop the Satra.

Later, Saha said that the survival of the Satradhikar is important as he has dedicated his life in expanding Vaisnavite culture in Coochbehar. He, however, refused to divulge more on his present health condition.
