CM instructs departments to solve civic woes

GUWAHATI, March 27 � After a detailed discussion about the different problems of Guwahati city, the Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi instructed various departments concerned to take action towards the solution of those problems.

The meeting held on Monday evening at the official residence of the Chief Minister, was attended by the State Transport Minister Chandan Brahma, MLA and GMDA chairman Capt Robin Bordoloi, Chief Secretary Naba Kumar Das, DGP JN Choudhury and top government officials of GDD, PWD, departments of Finance, Transport, Home, Police and Kamrup district administration.

The Chief Minister asked the Transport department to take steps to take precautionary measures to minimize increasing road accidents, identify the accident-prone zones and to make the footpaths free from the encroachment by petty traders and other people. The issues like parking problem in the city, required changes in the truck parking areas, filling the vacant posts in the traffic police, need to free the beels and other water bodies in and around the city from encroachment, de-silt and clean the rivulets and drainage were also discussed in the meeting.

The Chief Minister gave instructions to remove the electricity poles and transformers, which are in the middle of the roads, mentioned an official statement. He further instructed the department concerned to take action against the unfit inter-state truck drivers, who obtain licence from other States and drive through the territory of Assam. He also said that immediate and firm action should be taken against drunk-driving.

In the meeting, Gogoi also asked the departments concerned to take steps to preservation of the waterbodies after making them encroachment free.
