CM inaugurates yoga centre

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, June 19 - In order to create space for the officers and employees to practise yoga after office hours right at their workplace, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today inaugurated a yoga cum wellness centre at the Janata Bhawan here.

Since yoga is all about helping an individual to achieve a more positive outlook on life and a focused, permanent sense of serenity and peace, the United Nations Organisation in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modis request, decided to commemorate June 21 as International Day of Yoga.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Sonowal said, Yoga is a confluence of body, mind and soul. It is a way towards a healthy body and mind. It is also a tool through which human beings are made to realise the core human values. He also said that yoga must be given importance to create a society where human values rule the roost.

He called upon the people at large to practise and propagate yoga widely every day and not only on June 21. Yoga leads to peace, prosperity and harmony and it is a method of having control on ones body and mind. He also said that at least a 30-minute yoga practice daily by the employees would create a congenial atmosphere for the people at large to promote yoga.

The Chief Minister also administered a pledge to the employees of Janata Bhavan for regular practice of yoga. A yoga demonstration by Patanjali Yog Prathisthan was also held on the occasion.
