CM inaugurates kabaddi meet

RANGIYA, March 23 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the three-day Sub Junior Inter District Kabaddi Championship at the Jawaharlal Nehru HS School playground in Kendukona, near here today.

�Our government has earmarked special budgetary allocation this year for the sake of promoting sports activities and to give enough exposure to all our budding sports talents of the State. We have planned carrying out the sports and extracurricular activities from the Panchayat level in every revenue village under respective Development Block upto district level for the development of sports and exposure of our own talents,� Sonowal said while inaugurating the championship.

�Our government has planned to set up a Sports University with a view to promote the sports arena of the State focusing to turn Guwahati as the sports capital of the country. Our government also proposed to appoint Olympic or Asian Games medallists in higher posts,� said the Chief Minister.

Pointing to the need of required diligence, dedication and rigorous practice by every sportsman, Sonowal urged the parents, teachers and others to encourage their wards since childhood to inculcate the basics of sports and its related activities to become a great sportsman.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by local MLA of Kamalpur Satyabrat Kalita, Rangiya MLA Bhabesh Kalita, senior officials of the Directorate of Sports among others.

The championship has been organised by the Kendukona Sports Association and North Kamrup District Sports Association.
