CM hails Army for return of normalcy

TEZPUR, Jan 29 � Appreciating the initiative of the Army and its Tezpur based 4 Corps in bringing stability to the trouble torn region, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said that the State and the entire region have achieved remarkable success with a large number of cadres from various insurgent groups of the region have coming back to mainstream during the last three months alone.

Gogoi was addressing a mammoth gathering of the first ever �Fauji Mela� exposition held here at the historic Darrang College field. The Chief Minister urged the new generation to join the Indian Army and exhorted the people of Tezpur to utilize all opportunities to enhance their interaction with the Army. He also complimented the chairman of the operation group, Let Gen Shakti Gurung, GOC 4 Corps, for conducting synergized operations in the State for early return of peace and harmony in Assam. Attending the occasion, Let Gen Shakti Gurung, AVSM, VSM, GOC 4 Corps, expressed his gratitude to the State government, local administration and the people of Assam for their continued support, cooperation and enthusiasm.

The region, as well as Assam, are moving towards fast development and in this regard the participation of State government is a commendable one, he said.

The day-long programme specially held to showcase the strength, organization and capabilities of the Indian Army before the people of Assam was inaugurated by Chief Minister Gogoi. It was marked by a well choreographed display of combat power comprising combate free fall by commandos, mock attack and battle drills, followed by the high energy charge by Gorkha Soldiers. A captivating display of skills by the Army dog unit and delightful trick-riding on mules exemplified the cohesiveness of the Army. Moreover, the Air Show by the Indian Air Force sand the exclusive flypass of Sukhoi-30 also enthralled the audience.
