CM, Guv urged to ensure early arrest of rape accused

BONGAIGAON, Aug 27 - Police have failed to nab a rape accused in Chirang district even 15 days after the crime. This failure of the police has provoked the local organisations to seek the interference of the Chief Minister and the Governor to ensure the quick arrest of the rape accused and his exemplary punishment as the rape victim is a minor.

Activists of the All Bodo Women Welfare Federation, Bodoland Janajati Suraksha Mancha and Bharat Raksha Mancha, Asom staged a demonstration at Chirang district headquarters Kajalgaon today demanding immediate arrest of the rape accused. They also submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Gautam Talukdar. Mohibul Ali Ahmed (Babu) had abducted and raped a 12-year old girl on August 15 in a four-wheeler on the flyover at Bortola under Dhaligaon Police Station in Chirang district. Mohibul (21), son of Sharif Ali Ahmed of Baikhungaon near Bortola under Dhaligaon Police Station has been absconding after the incident.

Police had registered a case (no.174/19) under IPC section 176 (B) and POCSO Act at Dhaligaon Police Station on the basis of a report lodged by the victim�s parents.
