CM for speedy completion of Dagaon steel unit

GUWAHATI, March 3 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today met Union Minister of State for Mine and Steel Visnu Deo Sai at former�s chamber in Assam Legislative Assembly and discussed about various aspects regarding completion of the construction work of the Steel Production Unit at Dagaon in Kamrup Rural district.

The Chief Minister urged the Union Minister of State for making the plant operational at an early date to meet the huge steel requirement of the booming infrastructure and communication sector of the region.

Stating that the government has shown its commitment in developing business environment in the State by passing the �Ease of Doing Business� Bill in the very first session of the State Legislative Assembly, Sonowal said that all efforts are being made to simplify the process of obtaining clearances for setting up businesses and the government is fast-tracking the allotment of land to the investors for rapid industrial growth in the State.

Saying that Act East Policy would open up the Northeast region and link it with south East Asian market, Sonowal urged the Union Minister of State to set up a production unit of Steel Authority of India (SAIL) in the State to meet the increasing demand of steel in the region for augmenting the infrastructure boom.

Informing that there is ample underground reserve of steel alloy in the State, the Chief Minister said that raw material for the SAIL plant could be sourced from within the State.

During the discussion, the Union Minister of State assured that his ministry would look into the matter of making the Steel Production Unit at Dagaon operational. SAIL Chairman PK Singh, who was also present in the meeting, apprised the Chief Minister that SAIL would soon launch an e-commerce portal which would inform the people about various agricultural, handloom products, etc. Through this portal people would be able to purchase these products at reasonable prices.
