CM for early completion of NRC verification

GUWAHATI, Dec 29: Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today called for completion of the verification process of the ongoing updating exercise of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) by February 2016.

At a meeting to take stock of the NRC updating process held at the conference room of the Chief Minister�s Office in the Assam Secretariat today, Gogoi emphasised on early completion of the NRC updating process. He also urged the authority concerned to ensure inclusion of all genuine Indian citizens and take adequate steps so that no name of any foreigner finds a place in the NRC.

According to an official release, State Coordinator of the NRC updating process, Prateek Hajela informed the Chief Minister that the State Government had extended full support and assistance to the process of NRC updating and that the officials were working sincerely for timely completion of the work.

The Chief Minister reiterated the State Government�s full commitment for early completion of the exercise.

Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Rakibul Husssain, Chief Secretary Vinod Kumar Pipersenia and Home Secretary SS Meenakshi Sundaram along with other top officers were present at the meeting.
