CM expresses solidarity with people of Dima Hasao

HAFLONG, March 17 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal while appreciating the Chief Executive Member, NC Hills Autonomous Council Debolal Gorlosa for his able leadership assured that he would be with the people of Dima Hasao in any eventuality as long as he is the Chief Minister of Assam.

Sonowal was at Maibang to attend as the chief guest, the celebration of 168th birth anniversary of Sambudhan Phonglo, a national freedom fighter on Friday.

Addressing a huge gathering at Disru field, Sonowal disclosed that his government is committed for the all-round development of all the 33 districts of Assam. For Dima Hasao, an ACS training college at Umrangso, BEd college at Maibang and Horticulture College at Haflong are being established very soon. He also said the people of Dima Hasao should never feel themselves to be alone in any aspect.

Earlier, the Chief Minister unveiled the statue of Veer Dimalik Kemprai placed near the junction point of Maibang town. Congratulating the people associated with the setting up of the statue of the Veer Dimalik Kemprai, he said that in order to further strengthen and improve the area around the statue, the PWD has been instructed to construct a retaining wall which shall be soon processed. He also announced Rs 15 lakh for the infrastructure development of the surroundings of Veer Dimalik Kemprai statue. This was followed by offering of floral tributes to mark the 168th birth anniversary of Veer Sambudhan Phonglo who was categorised as a national freedom fighter by the Chief Minister. Tributes were also paid by the Chief Executive Member of North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) Debolal Gorlosa, Chairperson, Ranu Langthasa, MLA, BB Hagjer and other senior leaders from Guwahati and Executive Members and members of NCHAC.

Veer Sambudhan Phonglo who belonged to the Dimasa community was born on March 16, 1850 in the tiny village of Longkhor, near Maibang. He was a pioneer in creating movement against the atrocities towards the local people by the British and fought relentlessly for the cause of his native land.

As a part of the programme, Chief Minister handed over the honorarium cheques to the village gaonburas and felicitated Pranab Langthasa who had recently made Dima Hasao and the country as a whole proud by winning Mr Asia 1st runner up title at a recently held contest in Thailand.

Others who spoke on the occasion were CEM Debolal Gorlosa and MLA BB Hagjer. Gorlosa thanked the Chief Minister for his zeal to take Dima Hasao on the path of development.
