CM attends final match of Bodoland Martyrs Gold Cup

GUWAHATI, Oct 30 - �Sports championships play an important role in identifying and promoting talented sportspersons and Bodoland Martyrs Gold Cup�s contribution in this regard is highly commendable. This championship is not only a deep tribute to the brave martyrs but also a promising platform that generates favourable environment for encouraging sports in Assam,� Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said this while taking part at the prize distribution ceremony of the final match of the 19th Bodoland Martyrs Gold Cup held at Khoirabari Stadium in Udalguri district today. The all Assam invitational football tournament was organised by ABSU Khoirabari Regional Committee in association with Khoirabari Regional Sports Association.

Stating that the Government of Assam has taken up several initiatives to boost sports infrastructure in the State, he said that fund for improvement of five hundred playgrounds have already been allocated in the budget. He further informed that the State Government has financially awarded athlete Hima Das and archer Hriday Hazarika under the State sports policy and taken steps for construction of several sports stadiums.

Informing that the State government has sanctioned an amount of Rs 50 lakh for setting up an advanced Archery Academy at Khoirabari, the Chief Minister also assured to look into the appeal made by local public representatives and people of the areas for construction of a stadium at Khoirabari.

The Chief Minister presented the trophy to Salbagan FC and runners-up trophy to Bodoland FC. He also awarded best player of the final match Phulong Daimary on the occasion. Salbagan FC defeated Bodoland FC 2-0, stated a press release.
