CM assures support to SAF Games

GUWAHATI, Dec 4 - Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said that the State Government would extend all possible help in all aspects including security, transport, accommodation and medical to make South Asian Federation Games, the biggest International Multi-sporting event in the North East a success.

According to an official press release here this evening, chairing an Indian Olympic Association (IOA) Coordination meeting at NEDFi House here today, Gogoi said that the State Government will leave no stone unturned for making the sporting event a grand success. The meeting was convened to assess and discuss the preparedness for the event which will be held in Guwahati and Shillong from February 6 to February 16, 2015.

Union Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal while sharing his thoughts said that the sporting event which will see assembly of nearly 4,400 athletes, will put North East in the international tourism and sports map.

The 12th South Asian Games will have 23 events of which 16 will be held in Guwahati and six in Shillong. There will be 11 competition venues in Guwahati and six will be in Shillong. Eight countries will be participating in the event and the inaugural and valedictory event to be held in Guwahati.

State Sports Minister Ajit Singh, IOA President N. Ramachandran, Secretary General Rajeev Mehta, Joint Secretary SN Bali, Secretary Sports Government of India Rajiv Yadav, Chief Secretary in charge TY Das, Director General of Assam Police Mukesh Sahay, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister MGVK Bhanu, along with a host of other top officers, were present at the meeting.
