CM assures steps for development

JONAI/SILAPATHAR, Jan 19 � Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today assured all possible efforts for development of the language and culture of the tribal communities living in the State. He also prioritised generation of employment by developing tribal languages and applying them in the field of education.

Attending the concluding session of the 20th biennial conference of Mising Agom Kebang at Jonai Higher Secondary School ground as the chief guest, Gogoi said that his government is according priority to creation of a free environment for achieving developmental activities in the State. He said his government is laying emphasis on providing quality education even to the children of rural poor and destitute and added that government has achieved success to a great extent in this regard.

�We have been formulating rural development policy to boost the rural infrastructure and to uplift the living standard of the rural poor and destitute. Development of urban areas like Guwahati or Dhemaji never denotes the meaning of development of the State. We are putting attention on equal development of the areas to take the State ahead on the track of development,� Gogoi said.

Hailing the rich cultural heritage of the Mising people, Gogoi assured that his government is taking special initiatives for the preservation and development of tribal cultures. He said the State government plans to construct a �cultural research centre�. He also announced sanction of Rs 25 lakh for carrying forward Mising Agom Kebang activities.

Speaking on the flood and erosion problems which cause great miseries to the Mising people living on riverbanks, the Chief Minister said the State government has forwarded proposal for additional fund for relief and rehabilitation measures. He also expressed satisfaction over the Rs 100-crore rehabilitation package for the flood-hit people of Dhemaji.
