CM asks Health Dept to crack down on quacks

GUWAHATI, Oct 25 - Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today asked the Health Department to institute a probe into the death of a person at Kharguli area of Guwahati following wrong treatment by a fake pharmacist.

In a statement here today, the Chief Minister said the Health Department has to tighten noose on fake pharmacists, who are subjecting gullible people to untold sufferings through dangerous medical practices.

The Chief Minister asked the Health Department to launch a drive in league with the district authorities against quacks who are posing a serious threat to the lives of innocent and illiterate patients.

�Stern action must be taken against quacks who are playing with the lives of innocent people in order to mint money. Health authorities should not show any leniency and slackness in this regard.

�The government will not allow anyone to exploit people, especially the people living in far-flung areas,� the Chief Minister said and stressed the need for raising awareness among people to approach only qualified practitioners for their health problems.
