CM asks Cooperation dept to prepare roadmap for activities

GUWAHATI, March 1 - Stating that a strong cooperative movement can work wonders for the economy of the State, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has directed the officials of the Cooperation department to prepare a roadmap to give a fillip to its activities.

While reviewing the functioning of the Cooperation department in a meeting held in the Chief Minister�s conference hall at Janata Bhawan today, the Chief Minister also directed the department to carry out a survey to assess the requirement of cold storage to house agricultural produce within a fixed timeframe.

The Chief Minister further directed the Cooperation department to ensure proper market facilities and a storage mechanism to attract the young generation towards farming. �The youths will take up farming only if they get handsome returns for their produce,� Sonowal added.

Referring to the growing fish requirements in the State, the Chief Minister asked Fishfed to chalk out a plan to augment fish production to meet the demand. Sonowal also stressed the need to take adequate measures to preserve the local species of fish as well as produce ornamental fish in the State.

The Chief Minister reviewed the functioning of the Assam Cooperative Apex Bank and directed its officials to work in close coordination with different organisations of the Government for better market access. He also reviewed various schemes of the Assam State Warehousing Corporation and Housefed, apart from different ways to rejuvenate the Apol Mill.

The Additional Chief Secretary (Cooperation department), Commissioner & Secretary to the Chief Minister, and several other senior officials of the Cooperation department, Assam State Warehousing Corporation, Housefed and Assam Cooperative Apex Bank were present in the meeting, said an official release.
