Closing ceremony of Cine Club golden jubilee

GUWAHATI, April 23 - The three-day closing ceremony of the Gauhati Cine Club�s year-long golden jubilee celebration started here today. Cine Club president AK Absar Hazarika inaugurated the closing ceremony at 11 am. This was followed by a meeting presided over by him.

Former president of the Club Manik Bora spoke briefly at the meeting on his association with the Club.

At 11.40 am, a cine quiz contest was held with participation of people from all walks of life. It was conducted by Gautam Ganguly. The response to the quiz competition was very encouraging, said Madhurima Barua, secretary of the Club.

At 3.30 pm, a popular short film, Kunir Kutil Dasha (The Elbow in Exile), made by Altaf Mazid, who died recently, was screened in deference to him. This was followed by the screening of Akira Kurosawa�s Dreams.

As part of the programme, at 11 am tomorrow, special screening of Mriganabhi will be held. This film is made by filmmaker Hemen Das based on a story by noted writer Rita Choudhury. Das is a life member of the Gauhati Cine Club.

At 3.30 pm tomorrow, Mumbai-based Parsi woman filmmaker Oorvazi Irani will deliver a talk on �The Auteur and Bollywood.� This will be followed by the screening of Altaf Mazid�s short film Rahashyar Bitsaku, to be followed by the screening of a classical film.

Earlier in the day today, rich tributes were paid to late Altaf Mazid, Barua said.

As per the programme, an open forum will be held at 2.30 pm on April 25 and prizes to the winners of the competitions will also be distributed during the forum, besides release of the publications of the Gauhati Cine Club.

At 5.30 pm that day, The path of Zarathustra, made by Oorvazi Irani, will be screened. This will be followed by an interaction with Irani. At 7.30 pm, a get-together of the Club members will be held.
