DIBRUGARH, July 22 - A ferry carrying around 160 passengers and four vehicles had a narrow escape in the middle of the Brahmaputra river today as it reportedly went out of control due to some technical snag, passengers on board the ferry said.
The ferry was later pushed towards a small char area, some 200 metres from the spot in the middle of the river, with the help of bamboo poles.
The incident caused panic among the passengers, including women and children. The ferry was moving from Bogibeel to Kalajan in Dhemaji district.
All passengers alighted from the ferry amid a heavy downpour in the char. They were stranded for about an hour. The ferry left for its destination after it was restored.
