BISWANATH CHARIALI, June 8 � A clock tower will be installed here tomorrow under the aegis of Biswanath Festival Celebration Committee and Power Grid with special efforts of Narayan Konwar, SDO (C) in charge of Biswanath sub-division at an estimated cost of Rs eight lakhs.
Claimed to be the second clock tower of North-East India, the 46-feet tall and 4 feet radius structure has three electro-magnetic clocks bought from Chennai. The significance of the tower is that there are nine terracotta relief works on its body which displays the different ethnic cultures of the area, including the Dragon of the Ahom era, the �Bhaluk Goshain� of the historical �Gupta Kashi� of Biswanath, Satriya Dance, Sree Sree Gangmou Thaan set up by Srimanta Sankardeva at Borgang, Bihu Dance, Bagrumba dance of the Bodos, Karbi Dance, Nepali Dance, Jhumur of the tea tribes and Zikir, the immortal creation of Ajan Fakir.
The terracotta relief work has been done by renowned artist Shiva Prasad Marar. The tower, installed at the entrance to Biswanath Chariali town by National Highway-15 towards the east, will play a special role in promoting the town as a tourist spot.
It may be mentioned that the funds spent in constructing the tower has come from the balance money of Biswanath Festival and an amount of Rs 7 lakhs donated by Power Grid.
