Cleanliness drive by Transport dept

GUWAHATI, Feb 10 � Keeping in tune with Chief Minister�s thrust on cleanliness, the state�s Transport department is all set to maintain cleanliness in all the public transport vehicles and bus stations.

With a view to achieve cleanliness, the Commissioner of Transport has directed the Managing Director of Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) to provide garbage collection bins in all buses operating under the ASTC.

The Commissioner has also directed all District Transport Officers and Regional Transport Authorities of all districts of the state to convince all the bus owners and mid-sized passenger carrying vehicles etc., to provide garbage collection bins in the vehicles.

The garbage collection bins should be disposed of in predetermined disposal area and should be sanitised later on frequently. At the same time, maintenance of cleanliness of the bus stations should also be given priority and sufficient number of garbage collection bins should be provided in the bus station campuses.

The District Transport Officers and Regional Transport Authorities have also been directed to convene meetings with concerned bus associations, individual owners, representatives of the ASTC and other passenger carrying vehicle associations and owners and stress upon the single point agenda of general cleanliness in public transport system in the interest of public life.

All stakeholders should be given time to complete the necessities within February, 2015. The District Transport Admini-stration should do well to inspect the progress and keep the development under keen watch and inspection, said an official press release.
