Clean sweep by Manipur paddlers in Media TT

GUWAHATI, Dec 11 - All Manipur Working Journalists� Union (AMWJU) paddlers ensured a clean sweep in the Media Table Tennis Championship of the North East Media Sports Festival organised by the Assam Sports Journalists Association (ASJA) at the ABITA Indoor Stadium in RG Baruah Sports Complex here today.

In the team event final, Manipur got the better of G-Plus 2-0.

Ranjan Singh of Manipur clinched the men�s singles title by getting the better of his teammate T Nirmal 11-3, 11-7, 11-9.

In the women�s final, S Soniya Devi of Manipur got the better of E Babina Devi of Manipur 11-3, 11-3, 11-5.

In the Harendra Nath Baruah Memorial Football Tournament, G-Plus thrashed News18 6-0 at the Nehru Stadium here today. In some of the other matches, Pratidin Time, Prag News, Niyamiya Barta and DDK got walkover against their opponents. The Group-B matches will be played tomorrow.

Earlier, Rajiv Prakash Baruah, Additional Secretary of Assam inaugurated the football tournament in the presence of former international footballer Debasish Roy and Pulak Goswami, sports organiser.

The Aurobindo Buragohain Memorial Badminton Championship will get under way at the Kanaklata Indoor Stadium here tomorrow.
