The project that was launched by Dhubri Deputy Commissioner Anant Lal Gyani, mainly envisages to involve the common mass to make Dhubri town free from garbage and transform it into a place of healthy living.

All the logistics needed for campaigning to create awareness among the people, will be provided and, in fact, in the meantime five e-rickshaws have been donated by some individuals and organizations which will be used as garbage carrying vans after re-modelling them, Gyani added.

He also said that it was high time that people should raise their voices against throwing of garbage in the streets thus create an unhygienic condition and added that some stringent measures will also have to be taken to streamline the messed up Board.

Dhubri District Development Commissioner Mamud Hassan also spoke at a length on various measures that could be taken to make best use of the garbage instead of throwing them out as wastes. We must learn to reduce, reuse and recycle everything by simple methods like making vermin-compost fertilizers which has a huge market in many parts of the country, Hassan added.

To carry forward the project, a two-tier executive committee was formed with senior journalist Bijoy Kumar Sharma as the convener of Clean Dhubri Green Dhubri project. Besides this, a body headed by each ward member will be constituted under this mission in all the 16 wards of the town, an official informed.

Many organizations of Dhubri town have been taking part in a cleanliness drive for quite some time, so we thought of launching a joint drive with dedication to clean the town. Now the Deputy Commissioner and Executive Officer of the board are extremely co-operative, so we hope of achieving our goal, Sharma added.

Officials informed that there are about 15,000 sources of waste and garbage generation points in the town which include commercial and residential areas and these points generates 10 to 12 tons of wastes daily.
