GUWAHATI, Nov 6 - It is clarified that the Court of Judicial Magistrate (First Class), Kamrup (Metro), had on October 19 convicted and sentenced the Editor of vernacular Daily Dainik Agradoot, Kanaksen Deka, along with two of his associates, to pay a fine of Rs 10,000 in connection with a defamation suit.
According to a certified copy of the court order, it is only in default of payment of fine that the accused are to undergo simple imprisonment of three months, unlike what was reported. It was earlier reported that the court had awarded three months� imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 10,000 to all the three accused who include BS Deka, printer, and Shamim Sultana Ahmed, journalist.
