Civic poll process in Tinsukia begins

TINSUKIA, Jan 28 � Political parties, like Indian National Congress (INC), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) have started their activities, even as the last date of filing of nomination papers for the elections to the civic bodies of the district ended today.

Along with the rest of the State, elections will be held on February 9 for the civic bodies of Tinsukia district, which includes the Municipal Board of Tinsukia and town committees of Makum, Doomdooma, Chapakhowa, Digboi and Margherita. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on January 30, while the last date of withdrawal of nomination papers is February 2.

Nomination papers for 15 Wards of Tinsukia Municipal Board, 10 Wards of Doomdooma and 8 Wards of Makum Town Committees have been filed in the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Tinsukia. Nomination papers for 8 Wards of both Digboi and Margherita town committees have been filed in the office of the Margherita Sub Divisional (Civil) and for 4 Wards for Chapakhowa have been filed at the office of the Sadiya Sub Divisional (Civil) Office, Chapakhowa.

It may be mentioned here that this is the first elections to the Chapakhowa Town Committee of Sadiya Subdivision, while the number of Wards have been increased to eight from four for the Margherita Town Committee. The next Chairperson for the Tinsukia Municipality has been reserved for woman candidates.
