City troupe performs at Burdwan

GUWAHATI, Jan 5 � A cultural troupe of Rangalay Kala Kendra here participated in the recently concluded �Bharat Sanskriti Utsav�, the 7th National and 5th International Festival of classical, folk and semiclassical dances and music and art and recitation at Burdwan, West Bengal.

The team from the Kendra performed Sattriya dances under the guidance of Sattriya exponent Bijita Goswami.

During the festival, the artists from Rangalay Kala Kendra performed �Krishna Naritya�, Jhumura Nat� and �chali Nat� in the classical category in the competitive section and received deep appreciations from Nritya Gurus coming from different parts of the country. The Kendra won third prize in the classical (Junior) category. Moreover, its student Archana Devi won the first in the individual dance (semi-classical) category performing �Dasavatar� in Sattriya style, out of all the contestants from different parts of India.

Bharat Sanskriti utsav in an annual national cultural event Burdwan organised by Hindustan Arts & Music Society and Antara Sangeet Bidyalaya, Burdwan in association with the Union Ministry of Culture. This year artistes from 16 Indian states and also from USA, Polanad and the Netherlands participated in the events.

It may be mentioned that Rangalay Kala Kendra is a school of Sattriya dance and music situated at Damodar nagar, Guwahati and is affiliated to Sangeet Sattra, Guwahati. The students in the kendra are trained under the guidance of Bijita Goswami. The Kendra artistes who were part of the troupe are Dimpi Talukdar, Jiya Das, Hirakjyoti Das, Priyanka Kaur, Nibedita Das, Bipasa Das, Archana Devi, Puja Devi, Krishna Choudhuri, Monsoon Bhattarai, Aastha Rai, Ankita Das and Anusuya Baruah.
