City to host national ranking TT tourney

GUWAHATI, Sept 19 - All the top national players will be seen in action in the 11 Sports National Ranking Table Tennis Championships which will be organised by the Assam Table Tennis Association (ATTA) under the aegis of the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) at the Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium in the RG Baruah Sports Complex here from September 25 to 30.

Around 1000 players from 28 states and around 13 institutions from all over the country will participate in this prestigious tournament.

States like West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Tripura, Telengana, Rajasthan, Pondecherry, North Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, Maharastra A, Maharastra B, Kerala, Karnataka, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Goa, Delhi, Bihar, Chandigarh, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Odisha and Assam have already confirmed to send their players for the meet. Players from institutions like Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB), Life Insurance Corporation (LIC), Food Corporation of India (FCI), Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB), Airport Authority of India (AAI), Ordnance Factories Promotion Board (OFSCB), Central Revenue Sports Board (CRSB), Dena Bank (DB), Air Force Sports Control Board (AFSCB), Indian Audit & Accounts, Department (IA&AD), Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), Canara Bank (CB) and Reverse Bank of India (RBI) will also take part in the championship.

Addressing in a press conference here today, the ATTA officials Arunjyoti Baruah, Tridib Duvarah, Gautam Hazarika, Munin Nobis, Soneswar Deka, Prabir Kr Das informed that they have almost completed all arrangements to host the mega event in a befitting manner.

Arunjyoti Baruah said the event is more important than the national championships for the paddlers and a very high quality matches can be seen in this event. The selection of the Indian team is generally made from such tournaments.

ATTA secretary Tridib Duvarah said apart from the tournament an two meetings of the TTFI top officials will also be held during the tournament. He said many national champions and international players like Commonwealth Games gold medallist and bronze medallists in the recently held Asian Games Monika Batra, Commonwealth Games gold medallist Sushitra Mukherjee, Mouma Das, A Amalraj among others have confirmed their participation.

A total amount of Rs 7,46,600 is at stake as prize-money in the championship where competitions will be conducted in Cadet, Sub junior, Junior, Youth (both boys and girls), Men and Women categories.
