City school denies expelling student

By The Assam Tribune

GUWAHATI, April 26 - The authority and the teachers fraternity of Holy Child School, Krishna Nagar here, which is in the midst of a controversy regarding the alleged expulsion of a KG student on the ground that she is a slow learner, the report of which has been published in local and national media, have vehemently denied the allegations.

In a press statement issued today to this newspaper, Sister Lissy Rose, principal of the school, said that the father of the child in question was only intimated about the slow learning of the child at the time of being given his daughters annual report card. In fact, it was the girls father who insisted on holding back his ward in the same class last year due to the same reason.

The statement said it was unfortunate that a case was filed against the school authority with the Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (ASCPCR), citing corporal punishment and mental harassment to the child, which is not only false but unthinkable too on the part of the teacher fraternity. During its four decades of existence the school is well known for its discipline, academic excellence and a child-friendly environment, it said.

The statement further said there was no question of expulsion of the child from the school, as has been alleged, and that the little girl is still very much a student of the school. No expulsion note/transfer certificate was issued and as recommended by the ASCPCR, the child has already been promoted to the next class, and her parents are open to let her join the school at their convenience, the principal said in her statement.

The school authority has already communicated with the girls parents in this regard. Sister Lissy also thanked the ASCPCR for taking the initiative to solve the issue amicably.
