City police nabs 2 in Mumbai for online fraud

GUWAHATI, Aug 19 - A team of Fancy Bazar Police Outpost led by sub-inspector Pankaj Pratim Mahanta on Sunday arrested two persons from Vashi area of Navi Mumbai on charges of cheating many people through online fraud.

Moniruj Zaman, 31, alias John who hails from Murshidabad and Sidhartha Chakravarty, 28, who hails from Bangaon in West Bengal, were arrested based on a complaint filed by Guwahati-based bisinessman Rakesh Parik.

The police team seized 30 ATM cards, 27 cheque books, 30 bank pass books, six mobile handsets and a large number of forms required for opening bank accounts from the duo.

SI Mahanta said that his team had been tracking the culprits for the past ten days after they got the complaint from the trader. Finally on Sunday, with the help of Mumbai Police, they were able to nab the two persons.

Mahanta further informed that Moniruj and Sidhartha are members of a larger racket involved in cheating people across the country through online fraud.

�Investigation is on to arrest all members of the gang,� Mahanta added.
