GUWAHATI, Jan 28 � In recognition of his exemplary endeavours as an entrepreneurs who overcome all challenges in successfully setting up his own enterprise, Rupam Kumar Barthakur, proprietor of M/s Ankur Appliances, Guwahati was awarded North East Excellence Award for 2010 at a function held in Mumbai on January 21 which was jointly organised by the Union Ministry of DoNER and Indian Chambers of Commerce, Mumbai, a press release stated.
Barthakur�s contribution towards arresting global warming and conservation of the environment through innovative use of LPG and solar energy was appreciated. The first LPG based crematorium at Nabagraha, Guwahati was designed and installed by his SSI unit named M/s Ankur Appliances under a project initiated by GMDA. It will be in operation within a few months. This modern system will help reduce the cost of cremation and will also reduce the time of cremation and arrest pollution.
The improvement of quality of tea with his efficiently designed system with LPG has also resulted in higher market prices for the growers, enabling them to tackle stiff competition and avoid closure.
Barthakur is also recipient of the National Award from the Directorate of Small Scale Industries, Govt of India in 2005, the release added.
