GUWAHATI, Dec 14 - City Cricket Club lifted the Chandradhar Deka Memorial Trophy with a convincing seven-wicket victory against Gauhati Town Club (GTC) in the final played at the Judges� Field here last evening.
In a low scoring match, GTC managed to gather 104 losing seven wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Ramkripal Gupta was their top scorer with 28 while Man-of-the-Match Chandandeep Das wrecked their innings capturing three wickets giving away just seven runs.
Chasing the target, City CC boys eased past the target losing three wickets in 14.1 overs. Best batsman of the tournament Rahul Hazarika top scored with 44 while Romario Sharma added 28.
The prize distribution ceremony was attended by Partha Pratim Hazarika, Assistant Editor, The Assam Tribune as the chief guest, sports organiser and social worker Ganesh Tamuly who sponsored the tournament, Naba Deka, son of late Chandradhar Deka, and several other prominent personalities and former Assam cricketers. In their speeches, Hazarika recalled how cricket was played in the early 1980s in Assam, while Tamuly emphasised the need of availability of more cricket grounds for the upcoming talented cricketers.
Individual prize winners are: (Man-on-the Match) Chandandeep Das (City CC), (Man-of-the-Series and best bowler) Avijit Sinha Roy (GCCC), (Best Batsman) Rahul Hazarika (City CC), (Best Fielder) Hrishikesh Tamuly.
