City beautification drive continuing

GUWAHATI, Nov 26 � The Kamrup Metro district administration is looking to complete the first phase of the ongoing beautification drive in the city by January 2015.

Dr M Angamuthu, Kamrup Metro Deputy Commissioner, said that the drive, which started in September, has been progressing well and all departments and organizations including the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), PWD (Roads), ASEB, Transport, Water Resources, among others are jointly working for the purpose.

�It is an ongoing process. Our effort is to improve the ambience of the city and remove irregularities and shortcomings in civic front. For that all departments have jointly undertaken a concerted effort and the first phase of the beautification project is expected to be completed by January,� he said, adding, the project involves overall effort in all fronts including the eviction drives, repair and refurbishing of roads, removal of unauthorized hoardings and banners, fixing and installation of streetlights, removal and proper disposal of garbage.

Dr Angamuthu said work on new drainage along the NH 37 is progressing on schedule.

Work on beautification from Bharalu to Sukleswar and at Sati Sadhani Park has been completed. The new traffic plans will soon be in place and GMC is planning of new parking places. �From January 1, new parking arrangement will be at place in the city,� he said.

The GMC has already deployed 31 NGOs, one at each ward of the city, for door-to-door garbage collection.

A Rs 15 crore beautification drive at the Bharalu River is on. The district administration and the GMC will start work on putting up new signage from this week.
