GUWAHATI, Aug 3 - Singer and radio artiste Kusum Talukdar was honoured with Sangeet Shree title at the Rashtriya Ramayani Abhivartan held at the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra here under the aegis of Akhand Shri Bharat Sant Mahasabha recently, according to a press release here today.
Talukdar, a retired Kendriya Vidyalaya teacher, is an exponent of Kamrupi Lokageet and Bargeet, and has performed across the State to showcase and popularise these genres, the release said.
The award comes as an acknowledgement of the artiste�s efforts at popularising traditional and folk music.
Talukdar, a resident of Panjabari area in the city, is the wife of late Dhirendranath Talukdar, who too was a writer and poet, the release added.
