Citizenship Bill opposed at Silapathar

SILAPATHAR, May 26 - Thousands of citizens of Silapathar and its adjoining areas gathered at the Silapathar Khanamukh playground to protest against the Citizenship Bill on Friday.

Organisations like All Tai Ahom Students� Union, All Chutia Jati Students� Union, All Koch Rajbongshi Students� Union, Sonowal Kachari Students� Union, All Assam Anuchuchit Jati Chatra Santha, All Gorkha Students� Union, Chatra Mukti Sangram Samiti, Silapathar Press Club, Khanamukh Yubak Sangh and several other organisations of Dhemaji district and Silapathar organized the protest rally against the Centre�s move on the Citizenship Bill.

The organisations expressed grave concern over the government move.

Attending the rally, adviser of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti, Akhil Gogoi criticized the ruling government as well as the former Congress-led government in the State. He also appealed to all the citizens to oppose the controversial Bill. Former ULFA leader Jiten Dutta and Anup Chetia also participated in the rally.
