Citizenship Act amendment a threat: AJYCP

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 22 - The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chhatra Parishad (AJYCP) has asked the State leadership not to fall prey to the Union governments move to amend the Indian Citizenship Act, a move that will pose a huge threat to Assam and the Assamese. The youth body warned of intensifying its agitation to resist the move.

In a statement, the organisations president Biraj Kumar Talukdar said, A slew of recent moves in Delhi has proved beyond doubt that the BJP-led Government at the Centre is least bothered about the Bangladeshi immigrant issue.

Instead, the Narendra Modi Government is keen to have a huge Hindu Bangladeshi vote bank to ensure a better political career of the BJP leaders, the AJYCP leader said.

The AJYCP further appealed to the joint parliamentary committee, to which the bill has been referred, not to clear the amendment which could cripple socio-economic and political scenario of Assam.
