Citizens sore over perennial civic problems

By STAFF Reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 23 The West Guwahati Students Union (No. 11) has chastised local MLA Ramendra Narayan Kalita and Minister in charge of Guwahati Development Department, Himanta Biswa Sarma for their inability to solve some perennial civic problems of greater Fatasil and Gorchuk areas.

In a press statement the union said that despite repeated appeals and protests, problems such as dearth of drinking water supply and poor drainage systems have gone unattended for years at a stretch. The people have come to realize the true nature of the leaders, the union stated.

Of late residents have been enduring an ordeal because of irregularities in public transport due to some vested interests. Similarly, the poor condition of roads and by-lanes has hindered the safe movement of people and vehicles in the area.

The union has urged the authorities concerned to operate ASTC buses through the area so that the public finds a respite from commuting woes. They also demanded speedy improvements in the condition of roads and by-lanes. It was further mentioned that if there were no positive interventions the union would be compelled to carry out large scale protest action.
