Citizens demand halt to faulty construction

By Bureau

DIBRUGARH, Feb 17 More than 100 citizens here have petitioned the Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner, urging him to immediately halt the faulty construction of drains along the northern side of the Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phukan Path from Chowkidinghee to Purnananda Tiniali.

The petitioners complained that in most parts of the drain, the width is between 18 to 24 inches, whereas any drain on this section has to be at least four feet (48 inches) wide. They also alleged that in the said stretch, the administration has not cleared the encroachment on PWD land. The manner in which the present drain is being constructed, the encroachments from the SBI Regional Office point up to the NRL petrol pump is being sought to be regularised, stated the petition.

The petition, a copy of which has also been marked for the Chief Ministers Office, demanded that all encroachments on either side of the Convoy Road (now renamed Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phukan Path and Karmavir Navin Chandra Bordoloi Path) from Amolapatty Chariali up to the Niz Kodomoni Railway Crossing should be cleared immediately before any drainage or footpath work is taken up.
