CID to probe Pathak murder: CM

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, May 13 Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today announced that the investigation into the abduction and subsequent killing of Superintending Engineer Gadapani Pathak would be handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and justice would be done.

Gogoi, while asserting that the culprits responsible for the death of the senior Agriculture department official would be brought to book, assured the family of justice.

Gogoi was speaking to mediapersons after visiting the bereaved family of Ashraf Ali, the former principal of Cotton College, who died on Saturday.

I saw the statements made by the deceased family and so want to assure them that no matter what, the culprits would be punished, Gogoi said.

Members of Gadapani Pathaks family, particularly his daughter, on Saturday, rued the way the probe was being conducted into the mysterious murder. They also questioned the autopsy report, which according to them, was inconclusive.

Pathaks daughter, besides close relatives, sniffed a bigger conspiracy behind the murder and demanded ardent action from the State Government to unmask the culprits.

Pathaks body was found a few hours after he along with Faizul Islam, an executive engineer, was abducted by unidentified miscreants on May 2 evening from near Abhayapuri . Islam is still traceless.

Meanwhile, a senior Assam Police official said that the investigation into the case is going on in the right direction and the investigators have stumbled upon some crucial leads.

As the intent behind the abduction and subsequent killing appears hazy, we are probing all angles and confident of solving the murder mystery, he added.
