CID to file chargesheets in scam cases today

GUWAHATI, March 14 � The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Assam Police is going to file chargesheets tomorrow in connection with three cases, naming five accused, of which prosecution sanctions against four were pending. The chargesheets will be filed with the Court of Special Judge, Assam.

The three cases include the multi-crore rupee salary scam in the Education Department which came to the fore in the Department of Elementary Education in 2007, pointing out siphoning off of a huge amount of money in the department from 1989 to 1997 in Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts.

The other two cases are misappropriation of funds under Itakhola Irrigation Division (CID case number 25/07) in 2006. The third case relates to false medical reimbursement scam unearthed in 2006 in the Education

Department.

While the CID is going to name Phatik Chandra Doley (sanction received), the then District Elementary Education Officer and Paresh Chandra Neog, the then Block Elementary Education Officer in the supplementary charge-sheet in connection with the appointment scam (Dhemaji and Lakhimpur), Tejimala Narzary, Superintendent, Director of Education, Kahilipara and Abdul Hussain Khan, Block Elementary Education Officer (BEEO), against whom sanctions were pending, would be named in the false medical reimbursement scam.

In the third chargesheet, which relates to misappropriation in the Bordikorai Irrigation Scheme under Itakhola Irrigation Division (2005-07), investigators will file the supplementary chargesheet against Prasenjit Kumar Pathak, prosecution sanction against whom was also pending. Already, CID had filed a preliminary chargesheet naming 11 other persons, including two contractors.
